We are huge fans of whisky drinks (and many others) and need to share this amazing Blackberry Thyme Old Fashioned cocktail!
This drink has the perfect combo of flavors that will be a winner even for those who aren’t whiskey fans. The blackberry and orange provides a bit of sweetness and complements the whiskey perfectly. Also, you can add a bit of simple syrup if you want it more on the sweeter side. This is such a simple recipe with such a memorable taste that we can’t help but share it.
The Inspo Behind the Blackberry Thyme Old Fashioned
We ordered a blackberry infused whisky drink a few months ago from a local restaurant and it was really good. Usually we don’t know every ingredient and proportion when we get drinks out, and some bartenders prefer not to share, but if we like a cocktail or specialty drink, we definitely try to remember some aspects so we can make them our own at home. This was one of those times because whisky that has too much sweetness added to it isn’t Mark’s thing and blackberries are the perfect “not-too-sweet” fruit to use to make this a favorite for both of us. Adding thyme and (of course) a little orange, and you get a very special old-fashioned.

How to make the Blackberry Thyme Old Fashioned
Really there are only five ingredients – so making sure they are all quality and things you like are important.
First, you will need to start with blackberries and an orange. Muddling a couple of blackberries (or one giant fat one) with an orange wedge and thyme is quite the base for an old fashioned that isn’t old or mundane at all.
Rye whiskey will be the star of the show, so find one you like. We love experimenting with different brands and know what works for us. Blackberries have to be the second most important ingredient. If they’re not ripe and good, then maybe the drink isn’t going to have blackberries in it. But when in season and tasting tart and sweet – these are a perfect berry for this drink. An orange wedge, thyme sprig and sparkling water/club soda should be a piece of cake to find any time.

Hope you like this one – not too exotic or difficult, but surely an adaptation on a classic worth trying!
