There are a ton of guacamole recipes out there, and honestly, this one is a pretty classic version, but oh so tasty! If you already have a go-to guac, then you probably don't need this in your life, but if you usually buy store bought guac, you are in for a treat by making this Guacamole from Scratch!

    Guacamole from Scratch

    What's in traditional Guacamole?

Traditionally, guacamole is made with just a few simple ingredients including avocados, onions, chile peppers, cilantro, tomato and sometimes lime juice as the base. But there are many upon many versions of guac out there!

    Guacamole from Scratch Recipe

The version of guacamole we make is easy and fairly traditional, but we always use hotter peppers (serranos), and more lime juice. Also, we prefer to make a pico de gallo from scratch first then add this to the guac because usually we like having both options available for tacos, but the pico de gallo essentially has all the ingredients that get mixed in to make the guacamole anyway. Two birds with one stone!

So you want to start out making the pico de gallo by chopping the tomatoes, onions, and cilantro. Then you want to finely dice the serrano and mix them all together. Next add lime juice, salt and black pepper. The next step is very important. Don't dig in yet!! You want the flavors to develop a bit, so let the pico de gallo sit for 15 minutes before trying it or using it in the guacamole. Trust us on this, you will thank us later.

Now making the guacamole is easier than ever. Just remove the skin and pit and mash the avocados, then add the pico de gallo and some salt and a bit more lime. At this point you can adjust the guac to your liking. Add more pico if you wish, or salt and pepper, lime, extra peppers, whatever your heat desires!

What Should I Make with Guacamole?

We like to make this Guacamole from Scratch just to eat with veggies or chips often. But make it with any and all tacos! We also like to use it on a variety of breakfast egg dishes, toast, sandwiches, with chicken, shrimp, and tons of other dishes! Guac complements most foods in our opinion, so use it on anything and everything.

Here are a few dishes we recommend from our blog to accompany this guacamole:

    • Mexican Street Corn Pasta
    • Sweet and Spicy Jalapeño Pineapple Cocktail
    • Juicy Lucy Cowgirl Burger
    • Roasted Tomato and Tomatillo Salsa
    • Sourdough Tortillas
