Ranch water is flexing this summer and we love this way of incorporating great tequila with some different flavors for a super refreshing summer sip! This Sparkling Pomegranate Ranch Water will cool you down on a hot summer day and is perfect for sipping by the pool!

    What is Ranch Water?

Traditional Texas ranch water is a blanco tequila-based cocktail that usually includes lime juice, simple syrup and Topo Chico mineral water with a lime wedge for garnish. Serve Ranch Water over ice in a tall glass for single serve drinks, or as a batched cocktail for larger parties.

Ranch Water is said to have originated in Texas during the 1960s. It is easy to see why it originated in Texas being a border state and having significant culinary influences from Mexico. No one truly knows exactly why it is referred to as Ranch Water, but rumors say it was created by a Texas rancher who spiked his water with tequila and a squirt of lime juice.

What’s in the Sparkling Pomegranate Ranch Water Recipe?

This recipe is a variation of traditional ranch water recipes. Instead of straight lime juice, we used half lime and half lemon. Lemons and limes are such a natural pairing and really complement each other, so we used both.

Additionally, this version of ranch water has pomegranate juice, giving it a bright pinkish red color and a nice flavor. Pomegranate and tequila pair very well, so this combo makes perfect sense and is so delicious!

For the sparkling water, we used Topo Chico, and many say that this is the only choice for a Ranch Water cocktail. But if you want to sub out the Topo Chico, we recommend using any other club soda or zero calorie soda water in its place.

    2:1 Simple Syrup

A little bit about simple syrup. We use 2:1 strength simple syrup (rich simple syrup) in almost all of our cocktail recipes in place of basic simple syrup.

The basic simple syrup is equal parts water and sugar, but rich simple syrup has twice the sugar, therefore it is twice as sweet. One of the main reasons we do this is that it lasts for 6 months (vs about 1 month for 1:1) in the refrigerator and we like making larger batches knowing that it will keep for longer.

That being said, if you use a basic simple syrup for this recipe, you may need to double the amount to give your cocktail more sweetness.

    Blanco Tequila

The tequila traditionally used in this cocktail is Blanco Tequila. For this recipe, we used Cenote Tequila, which is 100% Agave tequila coming from the Yucatan peninsula. It  has a bright citrus aroma and a complex flavor profile that is the obvious choice for this recipe. Using a premium tequila that is smooth and sophisticated really makes this drink shine. This is a perfect poolside, beach-going drink for the summer that we know you will love!
